Peacemaker, Mediator, Naturalist, Accommodator, Preservationist

Temperament Type Nine

They may seek comfort through accommodation. They want to be agreeable, peaceful, natural and comfortable. More importantly, they want to be calm and, if at all possible, to avoid conflict. They see themself as accepting, unassuming and laid-back. They would like others to see they as humble, easygoing and approachable. Their idealized image is that they are content and harmonious. They may have lots of time and no energy.

Desiring union, harmony and unconditional love, they get along with most people that they meet. Considerate and gentle, they have an innate ability to make people feel comfortable and at ease. They are very accepting and readily empathize with others. Focused on the well being of others, they may at times lose sight of their own agenda. More intellectual than they let on, they have a natural gift for seeing many different points of view. They are able to see all the shades of gray in any given situation and have a way of diffusing conflict and being calm and steady in a crisis. Focusing on similarities rather than differences, they make an excellent mediator and peacemaker.

They may drift off in conversation - in a nice way, of course. They don’t want to be drawn into conflict and avoid being pressured to react. Self-forgetting by nature, they repress their anger and neglect their needs in order to avoid the discomfort that comes with conflict. Because they may lose themself in life’s simple pleasures, the needs of others, or the basic task of living, they may never go after what they truly want. they may struggle to find their one true passion. At times, they may be complacent and minimize anything that is upsetting.

They may appear to be without any hard edges and still be angry. Often the strong silent type, they have the power of patience, persistence and resistance. They see themself as having stamina and take pride in their ability to endure. They tend to procrastinate and take longer than others to make up their mind. When they do make a decision, they are like an unstoppable elephant pursuing its goals. Not one to self-promote, they would rather be discovered than announce themself. Others may underestimate they due to their casual and nonchalant attitude. This is nearly always a mistake–one that they are happy to let others make because they prefer not to flaunt their talents.

Why aren’t all people with a given Temperament Type successful?

You probably know a bunch of people with the same Temperament Type. Why are some successful and others are not. Why the difference? The difference is Emotional Intelligence. We use Emotional Quotient. (EQ) as a shorthand to describe Emotional Intelligence.

A person may have a high IQ. They did well in school, maybe have a college diploma or even an advanced degree. They may even be in MENSA, the select high-IQ club and still fail in business and relationships. Why are they not successful?

The answer:

Your IQ determines 20 % of your success, which leaves 80% to other forces. This is stated by Daniel Goleman the Author of “Emotional Intelligence.”

A person with a high IQ does not mean they know how to manage their thoughts and feelings any more successfully than a person with a low IQ. Success requires taking the emotional data, making sense of that data, and integrating it into your decision-making. People with higher EQ does this better.

By increasing your EQ you can use your thoughts and emotions of your Temperament Type to make the best possible decisions. Increased EQ help you get optimal results from your relationships with yourself and others.

EQ challenges the conventional belief that emotions are in the way of good decisions. By increasing your EQ it is possible to learn how to use your emotions to make better decisions. By increasing your EQ, it is possible to increase your wisdom and energy required for high performance. The Increasing your EQ is a teachable life skill. If people get better at these life skills, everyone benefits: The brain doesn't distinguish between being a more empathetic manager and a more empathetic father
